Minutes for the WSWCD meeting held November 13, 2025, at the Wakulla County Extension Office, 84 Cedar Avenue, Crawfordville, Fl 32327

  • The meeting was called to order at 6:06 pm by Vice Chairman, David Shepard. Other members present were Kellie Keys, Emily Johnson and Cal Jamison.  Guest present is Cole Hall, candidate for Supervisor, Seat 1 which is currently vacant.

  • The agenda was approved unanimously.  Moved by Kellie and 2nd by Emily.

  • The Minutes for the October 9, 2025, meeting were approved unanimously.  Moved by Kellie and 2nd by Emily.

  • Emily gave the Treasurer Report.  The Prime Meridian balance is $13,691.75.  Check for Florida Department of Commerce annual fee of  $175.00 was written.

  • Old Business:

    • Website update:

      • Emily reported that after further review a decision was made to go with SquareSpace, instead of WIX, for our website host. This action was approved unanimously.  Moved by Emily and 2nd by Kellie.

      • Emily moved that we pay Streamline web hosting site $288.00 for the prior two months of webhosting our site before terminating their services.  2nd by Kellie, passed unanimously.

    • Wakulla County/US Forest Service land swap is still under consideration.  No new information at this time.

  • New Business:

    • Kellie introduced Cole Hall, local oyster entrepreneur and candidate for WSWCD Supervisor Seat 1, which is vacant due to the retirement of Dallas Marshal.  After a getting acquainted discussion and explanation of the Supervisor role Kellie moved to appoint Cole Hall to fill the vacancy for the remainder of the term for Seat 1, November and December 2025.  He will have the opportunity to run for the seat in the next election. The motion was 2nd by Emily and passed unanimously.

    • Kellie reported that the Florida Department of Agriculture end of the year report is due before our next meeting. She will give an update at next meeting.

  • Supervisor items:

    • The wildfire in the St. Marks Refuge was spotted by several supervisors. It was reportedly contained.

    • Cal gave the Springs update: The drought continues and the creeks and swamps are very dry.  Theres no flow into the swallets. The flow at Wakulla Spring remains elevated in spite of the lack of rain. During a FAMU DNA study in October the sampling at the wells revealed that D tunnel had suspended solids while the others remained clear. The visibility is averaging in the 40’+ range and the color retains a green tint.  Submerged grasses continue to thrive and the manatees are keeping the hydrilla mowed.  Migratory water fowl is returning.

  • The meeting was adjourned at 6:45 pm. Moved by Cal and 2nd by Kellie.
